Navigating Virtue: Islamic Ethics for Young Muslims

This course aims to guide adolescents to understand morals and virtues from an Islamic perspective and foster personal development and ethical behavior. Through exploration and discussion, students will delve into the core principles that shape noble character and equip themselves with practical techniques for self-improvement.

Objectives:

  • To examine the meaning and purpose of akhlaq (character)
  • To reflect on the state of our soul and explore human qualities and actions required for self-building and enhancing our social relationships in daily life through real-life scenarios
  • To cultivate virtues such as sincerity, patience, gratitude, and truthfulness 
  • To identify and discuss vices that hinder moral development
  • To equip students with actionable strategies for personal development
  • To develop and deepen our relationship with Allah

Topics to be Covered (may be modified):

  • Introduction to akhlaq; the Islamic perspective on self-purification & practical tips
  • Piety 
  • Trust in Allah 
  • Sincerity  
  • Remembrance
  • Repentance
  • Truthfulness
  • Patience
  • Gratitude

Course Structure:

  • Students must attend a weekly live session via Zoom with Sayyida Shahnaze

Requirements: 

  • This course is open to girls and boys in 7th-9th grades
  • High-speed internet connection, mic, headphones, and webcam
  • Students must keep webcams on for the duration of each live session

Homework:

  • Brief reading assignments will be given occasionally

Dates and Timings:

  • Dates: Week of Jan. 28 to Week of Jun. 9, 2024 (15 Weeks)
  • Break: Classes will be suspended for the duration of the month of Ramadan (Mar. 10-Apr. 10)
  • Weekly live session: Tuesdays 8-9pm EST (click here to convert this to your timezone).

Attendance Policy:

  • Please note that Islamic Literacy has a strict attendance policy as part of its effort to promote a positive learning experience. The minimum requirement for any class is that you show up! You are allowed only one unexcused absence. Further absences are grounds for expulsion from this course. Preplanned absences for work and travel must be approved by the admin@islamic-literacy.com. Medical and family emergencies must be explained before or soon after to the admin@islamic-literacy.com.
