Course Description:

Mafatih al-Jinan is an essential handbook for all things spiritual. It is a treasury of supplications, ziyarāt, and instructions for living a good life. It has recently been made available in English by the renowned translator Ali Quli Qarai. This course will teach students how to navigate this book and will allow them to explore its contents through instruction and discussion.

Course Structure:

• Students will attend a weekly virtual session with Shaykh Rizwan.  

Prerequisites: 

• Student must be at least 16 years old.
• High-speed internet connection, mic, headphones, and webcam.
• Students must be proficient in using their computer and the internet.

Homework:

• Student should expect to invest 1 hour per week completing assignments.

• Course Dates for Part II: Sept. 6-Dec. 23, 2020 (15 Weeks)
• Weekly live session: Tuesdays 9pm EST (click here to convert this to your timezone).
• Holidays: Nov. 22-28

Attendance Policy:

• Please note that Islamic Literacy has a strict attendance policy as part of its effort to promote a positive learning experience. The minimum requirement for any class is that you show up! You are allowed only one unexcused absence. Further absences are grounds for expulsion. Preplanned absences for work and travel must be approved by the admin@islamic-literacy.com. Medical and family emergencies must be explained before or soon after to the admin@islamic-literacy.com.

• Mafatih al-Jinan: A Treasury of Islamic Piety (Volumes 1 and 2) by Shaykh Abbas Qummi, translated by Ali Quli Qarai
  • Both volumes are available on Amazon. There are 3 edition:
    • Magenta 6×9 edition with Arabic text and translation
    • Purple 4×8 edition with Arabic text and translation (pocket size)
    • Teal 7×10 edition with Arabic text, transliteration, and translation
  • I recommend the magenta or purple editions unless you need transliteration.
