Early Islamic History I: From the Prophet's Birth to Migration

Course Description: Early Islamic History is a survey of the history of Islam from Prophet Muhammad’s birth extending through the lives of the 12 Imams. The instructor will primarily draw course material from Shaykh Muḥammad Hādī Yusufī Gharawī’s 8-volume Mawsūʿat al-taʾrīkh al-islāmī and Shaykh Rasūl Jaʿfariyyān’s 3-volume Taʿrīkh-e siyāsī-e islām. Following the lead of these two historians, we will focus on both narrative and political history of this time period.

HIS I focuses on the period from Prophet Muḥammad’s birth in 570 CE up to his migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE.
