Course Description:
This is the second in a 3-part series on Islamic ethics. The basic structure of the course will follow al-Ghazālī’s Mukhtaṣar iḥyāʾ ʿulūm al-dīn, an abridgment by the author of his own opus on Islamic ethics. The instructor will supplement the weekly reading with elements from Shaykh al-Fayḍ al-Kashānī’s commentary on the Iḥyāʾ entitled al-Maḥajjah al-bayḍāʾ. This semester, the course will revolve around the “3rd Quarter” on “Moral Vices (muhlikāt), covering the 10 chapters in 15 weeks. While this is a continuation of Intro to Ethics I, new students may join without any difficulty.
Course Structure:
- Each week, students will be assigned a reading from al-Mukhtaṣar along with study questions.
- Students must attend a weekly live session with the instructor. Live sessions will be conducted via WizIQ
Prerequisites:
- Student must be at least 18 years old.
- High-speed internet connection, mic, headphones, and webcam.
- Students must be proficient in using their computer and the internet.
Homework:
- Student should expect to invest 2-3 hours per week completing assignments.

- Holidays: There will be no spring break

Attendance Policy:
- Regular attendance is critical to success in this course.
- Students may miss only two classes during each semester. If they miss a third class, they will be removed from the course.
